Cosplay is the shortened term for ‘costume play’. It is a subculture from Japan that focuses on dressing as the anime characters or manga characters, video games’ characters and fantasy movies’ characters. However, now cosplay can be simply wearing costumes. However, cosplay costumes are different from halloween costumes as cosplay costumes are more detailed and fancy. Usually cosplay costumes come with a weapon or accessories, exactly same as the characters they portray. The costumes can be so detailed and elaborate that the cosplayers will gather in events or functions to admire each other’s costumes, and perhaps discuss the characters and other things associated with cosplay.

To be a cosplayer, you must be prepared to spend time and money constructing your costume, which might take weeks or months to get done. You will either do it all by yourself or you can hire a seamstress to do everything for you, but the fun part of being a cosplayer is that you build your own costume. The fun is in the process of making it, not just wearing it and showcasing it. However, to make a costume, it will cost a lot of money. To make an excellent costume will cost even more money and time, so it is not easy. If you truly have the passion and what it takes to be a cosplayer, then all you have to do is enjoy the hobby.
